History
Founded in 1976, Woodsmiths has earned its reputation for excellence one satisfied customer at a time. Our company began in a small Florida workshop with craftsmen who knew the art of building custom tabletops for discerning customers. We started by offering high quality resin coated table tops that enabled designers and customers to realize their elaborate ideas and themes. Our founder remarked that there was nothing like working in a small workshop; “The smell of freshly cut wood, the crunch of sawdust under your feet, and the feel of rough wood turned smooth is a delight to one’s senses.

In 2005 Mr. Michael Munoz purchased Woodsmiths from the Brown Jordan when Brown Jordan decided to close Woodsmiths. Under Brown Jordan, Woodsmiths was unable to compete against Chinese manufactured, cheap imported product. Mr. Munoz felt that the ingenuity and skill of the American wood worker was second to none; and given the right tools; Americans could provide a high quality custom product at a fair price. Mr. Munoz, a United States Military Academy graduate committed to U.S. jobs, purchased the company with personal assets. Financing was unavailable as commercial banks refused to lend to what they viewed as a dying industry.

On October 22nd 2005 Hurricane Wilma, a Category 5 hurricane, slammed into south Florida with winds of over 150 miles per hour. The eye of the hurricane passed over the Woodsmiths plant and ripped the roof off of the building, exposing all machinery, raw materials and finished goods to 12 inches of water. Two days later a secondary storm dumped another 6 inches of water on the plant and caused a secondary transformer explosion. Woodmsiths had suffered a catastrophic loss all manufacturing assets and all office assets.

Still believing in American manufacturing, Mr. Munoz purchased a 430,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in North Carolina, the heart of the U.S. furniture manufacturing industry. The “Harper Plant”, as our flagship facility is known, has been home to furniture making since 1890. Our current employees are 3rd generation master craftsmen and women. Mr. Munoz has been a contrarian and continued to purchase woodworking machinery to replace that lost in Hurricane Wilma and provide new capabilities. Our 12 acres under roof is now filled with $60 million of capital equipment, capable of producing all aspects of our product line.

With our new found capability, we have carried our love of craftsmanship forward as demand for our American made products has grown. Where Woodmsiths had been known for tables, bases, and conference tops; we now offer a full line of Hospitality Products including dining chairs, club chairs, fully upholstered sofas, booths & banquettes, stackable metal and wood chairs, and outdoor furniture. Anything a Hospitality & Design firm could require, we can now produce. We work with granite, marble, and stones of all types, from all over the world. Recently we have begun custom foundry work in stainless steel and cast iron.

Our intent for the future is to become a single source, high quality manufacturer for the Hospitality & Design Industry. Give us a chance to delight you.
